3/25/04 - Today we had an extraordinary opportunity to video conference with a group of students and their instructor, Jim Kelly, from Bournemouth & Poole College in Dorset, England. To see more about our adventure, click here.

2/17/04 - On Tuesday, March 2, 2004 students can attend Photoshop World for free. I would like to attend this event as a class field trip. We would meet at Pleasant Hill BART at 9:00 a.m. and ride over together. You can sign up for free passes at http://www.photoshopworld.com/ticket/

If you cannot attend the event, Katie O'Rourke will be conducting a tour at East Bay Works for ROP students @ 2:00 p.m. You can then use their tools to look for employment, etc.

12/5/03 - Parking permits are now required for the lot at 77 Santa Barbara Road. If you missed class on Friday, be sure to ask your instructor for a permit. Please leave the permit on your dashboard during class.

I would like to find out how many students would like to order the HTML and Color cards that I mentioned in class yesterday. Please visit the General Discussion area of our Message Board, http://pclab.cccoe.k12.ca.us/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=2, and complete the two polls. Thank you.

11/24/03 - I need your help again, I have several sites I would like to get your feedback on:

Resource Listing on Pearl Harbor - http://www.ibiblio.org/pha/ - in particular the myths of Pearl Harbor http://www.ibiblio.org/pha/myths/index.html
CNN The Cold War - http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/cold.war/ - http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/cold.war/experience/spies/
Pop History Families of the Fifties - http://www.fiftiesweb.com/pop/info-family.htm - http://www.fiftiesweb.com/pop/info-family.htm
The Wars of Vietnam - http://vietnam.vassar.edu
Psychedelic '60s - http://www.lib.virginia.edu/speccol/exhibits/sixties/index.html

10/31/03 - After our wonderful potluck this afternoon I wanted to remind all of you that we have a recipe site. If you send me your recipes via e-mail I will add them to the site. Happy Halloween!

10/28/03 - Ben Richardson setup a new message board for class. This message board utilizes PHP and MySQL and is hosted on our own server. I think that you will notice the difference in speed and appearance. I plan to move the messages from our old bulletin board to the new, but we've had problems with the conversion utility. I was hoping that a couple of students would volunteer to copy and post some of the older, informative posts to our new board. Any takers? Please e-mail me if you're willing to help with this project.

10/28/03 - I would like to extend a huge thank you to John Burns. John purchased the Mac Panther operating system for our class Mac and installed it. This new software allows us to run Netscape, IE, and Safari on the Mac so that we can test our pages in the various browsers. Thanks, John!!!!

10/22/03 - Our first nine-week session is rapidly coming to an end. If you started class in September, you can sign-up for the next session beginning November 3 by filling out a receipt form and paying the $45.00 lab fee (lab fees are due by November 4 and checks should be made payable to ROP). If you enrolled in class before September, you can find out your class end date by checking the sign-in sheet. All students ending in October or November must have their projects submitted for review by their end date. All students must attend class six hours/day beginning November 3, 2003. Also, beginning November 3 there will no longer be a 4:15-6:15 p.m. class.

10/16/03 - Happy Halloween early! I just had to share these. I don't know the source, but they're too funny!

Michael Mayer-Oakes was kind enough to write a Perl script for us to use to create pages that do not have pop-up ads on Tripod. You can download the instructions, in Word document format, here. Mike will be giving a presentation on how to implement this script on 10/17/03.

10/15/03 - We are considering offering the WOW Certified Associate Webmaster (CAW) test in the classroom. You can view the exam objectives here. For information on all of the WOW certification options click here. While we will not be offering the testing in the classroom, you might also look at the list of available book for the Certified Internet Webmaster.

Here are the web sites I would like to discuss in class today:

Week 4: Crucible of Empire-The Spanish-American War - http://www.pbs.org/crucible
Week 5: Election of 1912 - http://1912.history.ohio-state.edu/
Week 6: Trenches on the Web - http://www.worldwar1.com/reflib.htm - http://www.worldwar1.com/posters.htm
Week 7: Temperance and Prohibition - http://prohibition.history.ohio-state.edu/
Week 8: The New Deal Network - TVA: Electricity for All - http://newdeal.feri.org/

This is the information that I am gathering http://dl.ccc.cccd.edu/classes/internet/history175/critiques.htm.

10/13/03 - Wrote a new tutorial for Flash MX called Driving a Car with Flash.

10/1/03 - I have updated the Hosting Resources page. We currently have openings in our evening computer applications class. If you have friends who need to learn computer skillls, please tell them about our program. They can visit http://pclab.cccoe.k12.ca.us/ or call 925-942-3437 for more information.

9/25/03 - The site has been partially overhauled, I couldn't stand pink anymore. Eventually, I hope to convert the site to PHP. The search functions have also been updated and I added an archive page that will hopefully make it easier to find things. Registration is open at LVS On-Line, check out their terrific classes.

3/25/03 - Wrote a new tutorial for Creating Image Maps with Dreamweaver.

8/2/02 - LVS Online registration is now open. They have GREAT classes! Available classes: Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, Painter, Bryce, Poser, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, Flash, HTML, JavaScript, Corel Draw, Digital Photography, PHP, FrontPage, various filters, PhotoImpact, Search Engine, Shopping Carts, Design Principles, MS Office, and the list goes on! Classes start in September, I'll be taking some digital photography classes and PHP. Courses are $20 for new students and $15 for returning students. Each course lasts six weeks. Tell them I sent ya. :)

6/3/02 - I find a new academic software vendor called CCV Software. I haven't tried them out, but you may want to check their pricing before you make your next purchase.

5/20/02 - We have Lynda.com videos and training CDs available in class for your use. The CDs and videos have audio, please bring head phones or you can purchase a set from Robin for $1.00.

Please be sure to use the full URL of a web page in your e-mail messages and on message boards. In order for a URL to be automatically converted to a hyperlink, the http:// must be included in the address. Be sure to include your e-mail addresses on your web pages. Sign up for a Hotmail or Yahoo account for class work.

5/7/02 - LVS Online - Open registration ends May 15. I highly recommend these web related classes.
