7/9/02 - Web Page Design for Designers - This site has many useful web design tips geared towards people who come from a print design background. Be sure to read the Typography article. Also be sure to read pages 266-269 of Robin Williams Web Design Workshop for some excellent tips on font usage. Another useful list of design articles can be found at MGMC Resource Guide. Software Usability Research Laboratory also has some very useful articles on designing for usability including the Designing the Optimal Web Site Article (interesting statistics).
During our chat, Greg mentioned 508 compliance (Federal Agency Electronic and Information Technology Guidelines for Persons with Disabilities). Here is the site that house the 508 Compliance Standards. You may also want to read the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 or Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 (an easier read). A list of alternative web browsers is available at the WC3.

Ever wonder why fonts appear smaller on Macintosh machines than they do on PCs? There is a very good article on Font Sizing at Internet Developer (Apple site..Yes, I said Apple). There are many great articles at this site and it should help to answer some of those Mac vs. PC design questions. While we're on the subject of fonts, if you would like to find out what fonts are "installed/standard" on various platforms visit Microsoft's Typography site. You should always use fonts that are available on all platforms when you're designing pages. If you're still unsure about what the difference is between a serif font and a sans-serif font, visit Font.net for a basic tutorial on fonts. If you are wondering what font face is appropriate for the site that you are planning visit Esperfonto and use their free site to help you decide.
I just received my latest edition of the Fixing Your Web Site newsletter. This is another Vincent Flanders, Web Pages That Suck, site. (Have I mentioned how much I enjoy his books lately?) Here is the link to today's sites that visitors recommended that he review for the Daily Sucker http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com/uthink944.html#top

GoGraph.com - A repository of web graphics. Artists sell their images on-line. You can search the site to find images that you like. Images may then be used freely for personal use or can be purchased for commercial use. It is recommended that if you are going to use an image on your site that you purchase the license for the image.
ILor is an interesting new search engine. It uses Ask Jeeves as its primary engine, so the relevant results are good. The things that's different about this engine is that when you hold your mouse over the search result a menu of useful options displays. You can choose to open your link in a new window or save the link for later use among other options. You can also download a small program, Hydralinks (30 day evaluation), so that you can use this pop-up menu on many popular search engines.

The Color Schemer - On-line Color Scheme Generator. Have a difficult time telling what colors work together, this site will help you decide what color scheme you should use on your pages.
