BrainBench - At BrainBench you can take tests to be certified in many web development tools and software applications. You can use these tests to measure your skills and you can also get certificates for tests that you pass. There are many free tests available, but you must pay a small fee for a certificate ($7.95).

About.com Designer Portfolios - Are you having a hard time coming up with ideas for your online portfolio? Check out About.com's Designer Portfolios section for a lot of great ideas. While you're at it, check out About.com's entire Graphic Design and Web Design sections of their site. There are tons of great, tips, tutorials, and articles.
Digital Web Magazine - A great web development online magazine. It has product reviews, book reviews, interviews, excellent and entertaining articles and tutorials. Be sure to check out their archives of articles and tutorials.
SitePoint - I really like this site. They have wonderful articles (articles on building promoting, and making money), web master tools, and VERY active forums. Be sure to sign up for the SitePoint Newsletter so you can all of the articles delivered right to your mailbox.
The Internet Archive - Do you want to see what sites looked like back in 1996? Want to find all the articles pertaining to September 11, 2001? You'll find a lot of historical information at this site.
Break the Chain - Do you get email messages that tell you to "pass this message on to everyone in your address book"? Stories about missing children and children that need your prayers and money because they have a rare disease? Virus warnings that come from AOL or Microsoft? A message that Microsoft is tracking this email message and will send you money if your forward it on to your friends? These are usually hoaxes (untrue). Search this site before you forward messages. Another site that helps to stop the spread of misinformation is Truth-or-Fiction.
Media Inspiration - This is a site to help inspire web designers and artists. Lots of links to uniquely designed sites.
WebDeveloper.com - Excellent articles, links to all the latest "trick" applets, scripts, and code. This is a "channel" site, so there are links to sub-sites like javaboutique.com, javascript.com, scriptsearch.com, flashkit.com and more. Great site!
NetCraft Web Site Finder - If you find a site that seems stable and runs fast and you're curious about the server that it's running on, use this site to find out what the site is running on. Thanks Shizuko for the link!

TrainingTools.com - Free web based instruction in subjects like Photoshop, Flash, HTML, JavaScript, Fireworks, Dreamweaver & FrontPage. You can join Training Tools and you will be able to download all of the course in PDF format.
LVS Online - Inexpensive, online classes using various web tools. I have taken lots of classes at LVS and know many of the instructors, the classes are fabulous. The courses are in HTML or PDF format and each course has a message board available to communicate with fellow students and instructors. This is a great way to learn. Tell them Robin sent you!
PageTutor - Great HTML and JavaScript tutorials. The site has a "free" section and a members only section.
Visibone - Fantastic laminated color and HTML charts. Color charts are a must for any aspiring web developer.
