So, I just discovered that a lot of people are stealing my images. Now, I’m not going to be in an uproar if someone uses one of my photos on their site, although asking first is preferred. When you link to an image on my site instead of downloading it and hosting it on your own server, you are costing me money. I requested that some of my images be removed from sites, but they did not comply, so I have made a new image for just such an occasion. If you link to an image on this site, be prepared to display this. Here is a screen capture of one of the sites that used my image: rathofrobin.gif
People don’t realize that they’re costing me and others money when they link to our images. I have to pay every time someone loads a page that my image is on. I’m not paying anymore. If you want to use a photo, please ask.
Preventing Hotlinking - I found a good article on the problem of hotlinking at NetMechanic. This article led me to The SiteWizard.com and a fix for the problem using an .htaccess file. This file prevents others from displaying my images off site. Of course it does not stop people from downloading my photos and uploading them to their own servers, but at least I won’t have to pay bandwidth costs. I also found this article on removing your images from Goggle Image Search (that might be a little extreme for the moment).

wow … thanks for the information, so shocking that people actually think its okay to steal … hope your valentine’s day was wonderful
I really like your cute little hermit crabs!

Wow that sucks people are stealing, how disrespectful.. my friend makes websites and people would often steal her images and layout, i yelled at one of them and told the administrators of that website and they quickly took it down but still, its still rude to steal i hope your problem will get better soon

That’s cool! I hotlinked to an image once that caused the image to come up as a hand giving you the finger….O_O I like yours much better.
